What is DENT?

The Dent whitepaper (published in 2017) describes a decentralized blockchain network “where users are able to freely buy, sell and donate their mobile data, from any user to any user.” This way, the Dent project addresses one of the most prominent problems of mobile phone contracts: data roaming charges.

The main idea of the Dent Project is to allow mobile phone users to buy data packages from a global network of ‘nodes.’ In this case, a node is an individual that sells their unused data allowance. So, instead of paying exorbitant data roaming fees, users pay nodes a much lower price in DENT for their data packages.

It is worthwhile noting that mobile phone users must not replace their telecom providers. Instead, Dent offers an alternative to switch seamlessly between regular telecom providers and the decentralized DENT network as each user deems it more convenient. For their side, nodes earn cryptocurrency in a similar manner to mining.

The DENT token was launched through an initial coin offering (ICO) in 2017. Approximately 70 billion DENT tokens were sold at $0.00006 each, raising $4.3 million. The company behind the project retained the remaining 30 billion tokens to cover operating expenses.
